ABSTRACT:
Viriatus is the “Vercingetorix” of the Lusitanian people. He was a historical figure, but the ancient historiography and ethnology of the conquest of Spain, which came to us in fragmentary form, presents the character with the traits of a true hero by his many qualities and facts of all kinds. The Indo-European comparative grid allows us to appreciate how the ideology of the three functions is applied in an intensive way to build the image of a country with only three ethnicities (functionally oriented) with the Lusitanians occupying the second function (F2). Their leader, Viriatus, gives a good example because he avoids to fall into the three sins of the warrior, then he gets married following an Indo-European rite in three functionally oriented episodes, and all this to end up as a kind of king, as Romulus de Hispania, which like the kings of the Indo-European tradition accumulates the virtues and qualities of the three functions.
